Shopping for hair extensions can be confusing

Browsing through extension options can feel completely overwhelming. There are so many options out there and with prices ranging from $30 to $500. The truth is there is a purpose for each and every type of extension. I am not here to tell you this one is good and this one is bad, all extensions serve a need. The type of extension you are going to want depends on what you plan on using them for. If you are looking for extensions that will last you a long time or if you are looking for extensions to create fullness or length to create a style for a special occasion  such as a wedding here are some tips to help you find exactly what you need.

Why invest in quality extensions?

When it comes to purchasing extensions for your wedding it is important to get good quality thick extensions. This is one of those cases where you definitely get what you pay for.

If you are seeing extensions for $30 on Amazon and you’re thinking ‘this is too good to be true’ you are absolutely correct.”

These extensions usually have a lot of shorter hair in them so the ends tend to be very thin and wispy. These may be fine to wear for the occasional night out, but on your wedding day when you are trying to add fullness or length to your hair these will not do anything for you. If you are spending money on hair extensions I would suggest investing in good quality extensions that will last you for a long time and will help you achieve the look you are going for.

Here are my top 3 things to look for when browsing quality extension options

100% Human Hair

Your hair is made up of 3 structures the cuticle, cortex, and medulla. The cuticle is the outside layer of your hair strand that protects your hair. It protects the inside layers of the hair from damage which in turn help your hair retain moisture and gives it its natural shine and bounce. This is part of the reason it’s so important to get 100% human hair extensions. Not only does it keep them from getting damaged but it gives your extensions bounce, shine, and elasticity. This helps it blend seamlessly with your natural hair. When applying heat to synthetic hair you run the risk of melting them and damaging them.

Remi Hair

Remi hair is not stripped and the hair cuticle is still intact. These extensions are the best quality, they are 100% virgin human hair and are cuticle aligned. Our hair grows from the top of our head down, it is made up of millions of microscopic scales that point downward. So when different bundles of hair are formed together some facing up and some facing down this can cause frizziness, it will cause it to become tangled and easily matted. Imagine taking a brush and brushing your hair upwards rather than down, like petting a cat backwards. When the cuticles are not aligned the extensions are typically coated in silicone to create a smooth and silky appearance. It will look healthy but after a few washes it will become dull, tangled and matted, extremely difficult to work with.

Double Weft vs Single Weft Extensions

As I mentioned earlier there is a purpose for each type of extension. The difference between a single weft and a double weft extension is essentially more hair vs less hair. A single weft is just one single track whereas a double weft is typically one track folded and sewn together to create thicker and fuller extension. If you are looking to just add in a little extra hair to your style then single weft may be the best option. If you are looking for a super full and voluminous look then double weft is definitely the way to go. If you are looking at styles to wear for your big day I would say a majority of pictures you see on social media are styled with extensions and most likely double weft to achieve intricate looks.

Have no regrets on your wedding day

On such a big day like your wedding day wouldn’t you rather spend that little bit of extra money to get exactly what you want and achieve the exact look you are going for?
